This is a head frame at Poverty Gulch in Cripple Creek, CO. It’s the location where gold was discovered in the area. The photo is a 3-exposure (+/-2EV) HDR image processed in Photomatix.
After blending and tone mapping in Photomatix, I used the Camera Raw Filter in Photoshop to make basic adjustments and remove chromatic aberrations. I used the burn tool to reduce the highlights in some areas. I added black and white, curves and hue/saturation adjustment layers. I used the hue/saturation layer to create the sepia tone after experimenting with black and white. The B&W layer is not necessary to create this effect, but it added a little more contrast, so I kept it.
