Yes, the River Knows

IMG_0706

This is a 2-second exposure of the South Platte River in Eleven Mile Canyon. It was taken with a neutral density filter.

I made basic adjustments in Adobe Camera Raw. In Photoshop I used the Spot Healing Brush to remove some artifacts. I added black & white and curves adjustment layers.

Merry Christmas and Peace on Earth

IMG_0195

This was taken in Denver during the 2013 holiday season. We scheduled this as an outing with my photography group, and a wet, heavy snow started to fall as soon as we started shooting. We didn’t get a lot of photos, but we did get to warm up with some good food at a great restaurant.

I made basic adjustments, removed chromatic aberrations and reduced the lightness of the reds in Adobe Camera Raw.

Eureka! I Found Gold!

_MG_7005_6_7_tonemapped

This is a head frame at Poverty Gulch in Cripple Creek, CO. It’s the location where gold was discovered in the area. The photo is a 3-exposure (+/-2EV) HDR image processed in Photomatix.

After blending and tone mapping in Photomatix, I used the Camera Raw Filter in Photoshop to make basic adjustments and remove chromatic aberrations. I used the burn tool to reduce the highlights in some areas. I added black and white, curves and hue/saturation adjustment layers. I used the hue/saturation layer to create the sepia tone after experimenting with black and white. The B&W layer is not necessary to create this effect, but it added a little more contrast, so I kept it.

The Fake Lake, Part 2

This photo was taken at Garden of the Gods after the big rains we had in September of 2013. What used to be a small reservoir filled with water and stayed a couple of weeks. By this time the water was very brown and didn’t smell very good.

This is a 3-exposure HDR image (+/-2EV) processed in Photomatix.

After blending and tone mapping in Photomatix I made basic adjustments and removed chromatic aberrations with the Camera Raw filter in Photoshop. I used the Spot Healing Brush to remove some artifacts. I then selected the lower half of the frame with the Quick Selection Brush and used a channel mixer adjustment layer to remove the brown tint created by the mud in the water. I also added a curves adjustment layer.

This photo was taken at Garden of the Gods after the big rains we had in September of 2013. What used to be a small reservoir filled with water and stayed a couple of weeks. I call it the Fake Lake.

I made basic adjustments and removed chromatic aberrations in Adobe Camer Raw. In Photoshop I used the Spot Healing Brush to remove some artifacts. I then selected the lower half of the frame with the Qucik Selection Brush and used a selective color adjustment layer to remove the brown tint created by the mud in the water. I added a curves adjustment layer and cropped.

Left Behind

This looks like the scene from some apocalyptic movie. These are things left behind in one of the buildings at the Mary Nevine Mine in Victor, CO.

This is a 3-expsosure HDR image (+/-2EV) blended and tone mapped in Photomatix.

After blending I used the Camera Raw to make basic adjustments. I added two vignettes with the radial tool to darken the background and lighten the foreground. I used the adjustment brush to darken a drawer in the background. In Photoshop added a curves adjustment layer and cropped.
