Merry Christmas and Peace on Earth

IMG_0195

This was taken in Denver during the 2013 holiday season. We scheduled this as an outing with my photography group, and a wet, heavy snow started to fall as soon as we started shooting. We didn’t get a lot of photos, but we did get to warm up with some good food at a great restaurant.

I made basic adjustments, removed chromatic aberrations and reduced the lightness of the reds in Adobe Camera Raw.

The Girl with Far Away Eyes

IMG_0157

This young lady was one of the volunteers at the Salvation Army Christmas celebration in Manitou Springs. I just happened to catch her in a daydream.

I made basic adjustments in Adobe Camera Raw. In Photoshop I used the dodge tool to lighten her eyes and used the burn tool to darken some areas on the wall. I removed some spots and changed her name with the Spot Healing Brush. I added a curves adjustment layer and cropped.

Happy Grads

I photograph the graduation ceremonies for DeVry University. What I like about photographing events is that you get to capture images like this.

I made basic adjustments in Adobe Camera Raw. In Photoshop I used the Spot Healing Brush to remove some spots. I used the sponge and dodge tools to brighten their teeth and corrected the color with a selective color adjustment layer. I then added a curves adjustment layer.

Everything is Better with Whipped Cream

These lovely ladies were serving desserts at the Salvation Army Thanksgiving celebration in Manitou Springs. I convinced them all to put whipped cream on their noses so I could get a picture. Then I asked them to try to lick off the whipped cream, and this is what happened.

The Eyes of Zoya

This is Zoya at the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Foundation in Guffey, CO. She is a wolf-dog mix, and yes, she really does have one blue eye and one amber eye. Zoya is the belly rub queen. Once you start rubbing her belly, she won’t let you stop.

My, What Big Teeth You Have!

This is Cherokee, a pure-bred timber wolf, at the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Foundation in Guffey, CO. Isn’t she cute? Those who have met Cherokee know she is very sweet and loves to give kisses. I just happened to be pointing my camera at her when she made this face in a split second.

I made basic adjustments in Adobe Camera Raw. In Photoshop I made a duplicate of the base layer and converted it to black and white. I used a mask to bring in her eyes from the layer below. I also used the hue/saturation tool to remove the blue cast in her eyes that was a result of her being in the shade.

Karen’s Modeling Debut
